FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas's new basketball coach, Eric Musselman, will find busy classes to recruit in the states of 2020 and 2021 when he arrives in Fayetteville Sunday night.
It is clear that many of them are receptive to hearing what the former head coach of the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings, including junior Chris Moore (West Memphis) (6-6, 220), one of three Arkansas 2020 players ranked among the top 150 juniors at the national level.
"The fact that he's been coaching with Golden State and in the NBA is definitely something interesting," Moore said. "I can not wait to meet him and talk to him. This is an exciting rental for Arkansas. "
Musselman, who has been 110-34 in Nevada over the past four seasons with a Sweet 16 appearance and three consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament, has agreed to pass the terms of the contract Sunday afternoon.
He took a flight to Fayetteville with his family and Arkansas Sports Director Hunter Yurachek.
Moore joins the former North Little Rock and the current Montverde Academy (Florida), Moses Moody (6-5, 180), Fort Smith Northside center Jaylin Williams (6-10, 220) and the Peak Guard's Jacksonville, Davonta Davis (6-4, 175), goaltender Marianna Detrick Reeves (6-3, 170), goaltender Bryant, Khalen Robinson (5-10, 160) and goaltender shot Waldron, Payton Brown (6-3 , 180) as the best juniors in the state.
Moody is ranked 26th in the ESPN Top 60, 36th by 24/7 and 48th by Rivals, while Davis is ranked 95th by 24/7 and 128th by Rivals. Moore is 132nd by Rivals and 138th by 24/7.
The 2021 class has such talents as the excellent Gerald Doakes (6-1, 180) of Houston (Texas) Milby, the Jacksonville duo consisting of Ryan Maxwell (6-4, 170) and Jordan Maxwell (6 -4, 170). Little Rock Mills Guards, Madison Peaster (6-1, 170), Jalen Ricks (6-5, 170), Sylvan Hills, and Terran Williams, Marianna (6-4, 175).
Until now, the state's best talent in 2022 seems to be Nick Smith, the keeper of the Sylvan Hills (6-3, 170).
"Arkansas has a lot of talent right now that a lot of people in the country do not see," said Davis. "But there are a lot of kids in Arkansas who play at a high level."
Moore, Williams, Davis and Brown all play for the AAU Arkansas Woodz Elite and Moody organization for Bradley Beal Elite.
These five players will all be on the field Friday night at 19:45. at Fayetteville High as the three-day warm-up tournament begins.
Williams is just leading his team as a Class 6A state.
"It's good to hear about all the experience he (Musselman) has experienced in this area," Williams said. "We'll see how it goes on there, but I'm certainly interested in what's going on."
Davis is engaged in Oklahoma State on Dec. 2 on Arkansas, Auburn, Oregon and others.
"I do not really think about college now, but just at my spring right now, but most definitely he (Musselman) is contacting my coaches, I'll listen to him for sure." said Davis.
Brown is one of the most prolific scorers in the state, averaging 32 points per game this summer. He is committed to UCA, but hopes to hear from Mussleman and his staff.
"I'd be very interested if they offered me," Brown said. "It would give me a lot of food for thought. I know he's played very well in Nevada and that he's a good coach. "
Ricks hopes Musselman will focus on establishing prospects in the states.
"I think it's a great hiring, a coach with a lot of experience in basketball at different levels and I hope Arkansas will continue to recruit talent in position" said Ricks.
Jordan Maxwell is excited about the rental of Musselman.
"I think it's a very good rental to watch its history in Nevada. He knows how to win, "said Maxwell. "He brings that passion to the game, which I think is necessary.
"He must do his utmost to prevent the children from changing jobs and focus on recruiting to keep some of the best kids here in the state. I can not wait to see him go to work and bring the Pigs to the top. "
Ryan Maxwell is ready to meet the Razorbacks head coach.
"I am excited and hope to meet him. He has a lot of experience, even the NBA, "Maxwell said.
Smith is a few years from signing, but loves the move.
"I think it was an excellent job for the program," Smith said. "The coach was able to create a winning program in Nevada and, hopefully, he will do the same for the Razorbacks."
