Near the end of a 90-minute press conference on his new P30 smart phone in Paris, and just before announcing a pink glamorous holster encrusted with Swarovski crystals, Huawei's CEO, Richard Yu, has explained that the new phone is designed to work an entry key for your car. Where most car keychains work with a lock and unlock button, the Huawei system replaces it with the need to press your phone against the door handle to unlock it. You save the signature of your car key in your phone, then you can leave the keys at home. Yu also mentions that the phone can unlock the doors of your home or office in the same way, if necessary.
Huawei said the P30 was already operating as a car key on a number of new Audi products. BMW should soon be available and several other manufacturers should be connected.

The first thing that comes to my mind is that phones can die. If you are not prepared with a charging cord or a Qi charger nearby, you may be stuck out of your car until you can find a way to get some juice.
The disconnect between automotive technology and telephone technology is another potential problem. Two state-of-the-art elements are designed to talk to each other, but what if they have a communication failure? Sometimes my iTelephone is down and needs to be rebooted. I would hate to do this on the parking lot on a rainy day.
