The Town of Poway is seeking public opinion on Poway Community Park as city officials plan future park amenities and programs.
Park facilities include the new Mickey Cafagna community center, swimming center, skate park, baseball diamonds, dog park, two playgrounds, picnic tables as well as basketball courts. , tennis and pétanque.
The 30-question survey is available in English and Spanish. It will be available online until September 3 at tinyurl.com/ParkSurvey21. A paper version of the survey is available at the Community Center at 13094 Civic Center Drive.
Officials estimate it takes around 10 minutes to complete, according to the survey’s website. The questions relate to the hours of park use and how respondents would like to use the park in the future. Questions about the importance of adding various amenities are included. These include adventure equipment like an obstacle course, rock face, swings and climbing logs, and a maze. Also artificial turf, BMX pumping track, disc golf course, more indoor fitness facilities, innovative playgrounds for all skill levels, outdoor amphitheater / stage, outdoor chess tables, outdoor fitness equipment, outdoor ping-pong table, pickleball courts, roller skating park or skating rink, sand volleyball courts and the construction or improvement of existing baseball and softball fields.

“The community park is undergoing a transformation,” City Manager Chris Hazeltine said in a press release. “We have a new community center, a recently renovated swimming center and with the new development along Poway Road, the time has come to create an action plan that provides the greatest benefit to the users of our park.”
“Our goal is to engage the community in the most inclusive and innovative way possible and to let community value and unmet needs determine the priorities for the future of the community park,” said city planner David DeVries. in the ad.
City officials said new housing under construction along Poway Road is expected to increase use of the community park. It will also lead to the city receiving funding for park improvement through new park impact fees.
City council is expected to review the results of the investigation later this year.
