HECTOR – Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s went undefeated with a 16-14 victory over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday in a 9-man soccer game.

The Mustangs took a 6-0 lead on a 3-yard touchdown by Ashten Bergstrom in the first quarter, then led 14-0 after Hayden VanderVoort scored on a 2-yard rush. Bergstrom scored on the 2-point conversion in the second quarter.

The Knights went on the board in the second quarter after Owen Weiss scored on a Carson Domeier touchdown pass. Domeier scored a 7-yard touchdown in the third quarter to reduce the BLHS lead to 14-12, and Trent Steffensmeier later scored in the third quarter to give the Knights an 18-14 lead.

The Mustangs secured late safety to reduce the final deficit to 18-16. St. Mary’s will host Southland at 7 p.m. Friday evening.
