The Last of Us HBO Show: Season 1 adapts first game, but will ‘stray a lot’ in some episodes

The Last of Us on HBO will pick up the dialogue directly from the original game, says executive producer Neil Druckmann, but will see some episodes “deviate significantly” from events we played previously. film and television adaptations, and with the roles of Ellie and Joel, one of the biggest questions remains how well does the HBO series stick to the story of the original. Speaking to IGN at SXSW 2021, The Last of Us game director and show executive producer Neil Druckmann spoke about his approach and showrunner Craig Mazin to adapt the acclaimed original game.“We talked at length [that season 1 of the show is going to be [the first game]Druckmann explained, noting that for him and for Mazin, “the philosophical foundations of the story” were the essential thing to do the adaptation well. “As far as superficial things are concerned, as should [a character] wear the same checked shirt or the same red shirt? They may or may not appear there, it is much less important to us than knowing the hearts of these people and the heart of their journey. And while Druckmann can’t, of course, say too much about the team’s exact plans for how the series will play out in relation to the game, he explained that viewers will certainly recognize some dialogue – and be surprised by large parts of episodes.

“Sometimes things stay quite close. It’s funny to see my dialogue of the games in the HBO scripts. And sometimes they deviate considerably for a much better effect because we are dealing with a different medium, ”he said.

Release of the PlayStation Major franchise

“For example, in the game there is so much action that you have to train the player in the mechanics. You need to have more violence and more spectacle to an extent than you would need in a TV show because you don’t need to train people to use a gun. So that’s something really different, and HBO has been great in pushing us to move away from hardcore action and focus more on character drama. Some of my favorite episodes so far have strayed far from the story, and I can’t wait for people to see them. “

But beyond that, Druckmann didn’t want to spoil the experience of what was to come, only to say that he “can’t wait for people to see what we’ve seen in the people we’ve gathered,” referring to Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. But he recently got to see one of the game’s biggest threats come to life.

“I just saw the first prosthetic test of the Clicker and it’s great. It’s so great to see this thing come to physical life, ”he said.
