The leak before the release of the Galaxy Note 21+ might have convinced me to change

I’ve been using a Galaxy Note 9 for over 2 years now, can’t find any compelling reason to switch to another Samsung phone since I started. Now, here at the end of 2020, I might have been convinced to upgrade. Not by another Galaxy Note, nor by a foldable device of any kind. Instead, I think I was won over by the Samsung Galaxy S21 +’s considerably massive flat display panel that just leaked.

After two years, the thrill of having a screen with left and right sides dipping near the edge is … gone. The Galaxy Note 9 still looks amazing and futuristic – I will never sell this phone, it grew on me. But I don’t think I would ever buy a phone specifically for its oddly shaped screen. BELOW: Not the Galaxy Note 9 I’m using, but an example from our Galaxy Note 9 review from 2018.

Instead of extravagance, I lean towards utility. If what has been leaked here is exactly correct, it looks like Samsung is heading towards utility as well. This is a good thing. We’ve hit the upper limit of the candy bar-shaped smartphone with some weird, but not entirely useful display features.

With the Galaxy S21 +, it seems that Samsung is summoning the same finesse of display given to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 +. This device has a relatively flat set of sides and an equilateral display bezel.

Since it’s a tablet, there are good reasons the Galaxy Tab S7 + has the bezel size it’s been blessed with. With the Galaxy S21 +, the screen bezel is minimal, but still present. Samsung doesn’t try to hide the bezel with cascading edges. Instead, the design accepts the demands of the technology – which displays must at some point – and makes the most of the situation.

Barring the complete lack of the front camera, the leak we saw today from the Galaxy S21 + looks like the most ideal smartphone design execution I’ve seen in many years. With the apps and uses I have for a smartphone here at the end of 2020, this Galaxy S21 + 2021 looks like the most ideal ship for my immediate future.

The Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 + and Galaxy S21 Ultra are expected to be revealed at an event in January 2021. The Galaxy S21 family release date is likely set for later in January – but nothing is not official yet. ! Stick around and we’ll see!
