"Visually, it's mind-blowing," wrote a movie journalist about the photoreal CG animation of the star-studded remake.
After dividing Aladdin, critics, reporters and editors tweeted for the first time Disney's latest remake of his animated classics, The Lion King. The verdict: the film visually astonishes and emotionally hits many, if not all, viewers.
The Lion King, realized by The jungle Book Director Jon Favreau closely follows the rhythms of the 1994 Disney animated film, with several of his original songs. As in Disney's first film, the young lion prince Simba (Donald Glover) flees his kingdom when his father is murdered by his younger brother, Scar (Chiwetel Eijiofor). After learning some lessons off the land of pride, he returns to face Scar.
In addition to Glover and Eijiofor, The Lion King stars Beyoncé as Nala, James Earle Jones as Mufasa, Billy Eichner as Timon, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, John Oliver as Zazu, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, Eric Andre as Azizi, Keegan Michael-Key as Kamari, among others.
Adam B. Vary, a Buzzfeed reporter, wrote: "#TheLiongKing is a historical * visual experience * I have never seen anything like it and I think it will forever change the way we watch movies. " He added: "As an * emotional * experience, however … I will say it this way: it turns out that lions can not really get emotional."
Laura Prudom, associate editor at IGN Entertainment, said: "Visually, it's beautiful – an unprecedented technical feat that looks like watching a documentary about nature." "In the end, #TheLionKing will be a moving introduction to a timeless story for a new generation, but I would never have seen it again compared to the original."

#The Lion King is a historical * visual * experience. I have never seen anything like it and I think it will forever change the way we watch movies.
As an * emotional * experience, however … I'll say it this way: it turns out that lions can not really get emotional.

Saint Smokes, I really liked LE LION KING. I think it's the most beautiful effects movie I've seen. As on the next level, the game has changed kind of thing. (For the record, I'm agnostic about the original movie and have no nostalgia, anyway, this movie caught me.)

I've been lucky enough to attend several world premieres but I'm not sure I've ever heard as much applause during a movie as tonight #The Lion King . Was like being at a rock concert. The movie will make a lot of money. pic.twitter.com/rnU4qf92mt

The Lion King is a wonderful adaptation of an iconic classic. There are some small changes that enhance what was already great and everything else is about. The CG can sometimes be slightly disturbing, but the emotion covers it quickly. adored pic.twitter.com/9QmsP3PmNh

Just out of #The Lion King. Dominant Reaction: SIMBA IS SO CUTE. But really, if you hope it will be an almost exact adaptation of the animated movie with absolutely stunning visual effects, you will get what you are looking for. pic.twitter.com/14BydbdhCx

Absolutely amazed by #The Lion King. Incredible visuals and voice work. Shouted all my makeup. Timon and Pumba brought me back from the edge. Would die for Simba baby. pic.twitter.com/YBpncCVowz

Ultimately #The Lion King will be a touching introduction to a timeless story for a new generation, but I'll never see you again

So #The Lion King It was the first movie I saw in movie theaters and this reimagination hit all the notes. I loved it. If it was Beyonce, Donald, animation, Jon Fav … no, it was probably Beyonce.

#The Lion King is exactly as advertised: a remake in the identical of the original. An impressive animation and some casting choices of choice (BeyoncĂ© is a fiery Nala, John Oliver is an ideal Zazu) and the music is still – but it's more a nostalgic rehearsal than a new interpretation

#The Lion King has always been my favorite Disney animated movie and this new rendition is a wonderful reminder. Happy to find chills, emotions and familiar tears. Impressed by the visual magicians behind this one. Timon and Pumbaa are everything. pic.twitter.com/IcWHgjHCuF
