Although we don’t know the details of the new 2022 Jeep Wagoneer until its official launch on March 11, 2021, Autoweek reported that we can expect one thing: the Amazon Fire TV screens built into the Uconnect infotainment system.
Fire TV is Amazon’s answer to streaming services, but it also lets you play video games, listen to music, and use other apps. And Jeep will be the first manufacturer to implement this software in an automotive environment. Autoweek reports that it will have the same interface as your Fire TV at home and that you will be able to use your account without problems. Basically, you can start watching a show at home, then get in the car and continue watching where you left off.
Jeep wants you to know that this will not be available to distract drivers because the technology is not available while the vehicle is in motion. Only passengers can use Fire TV in this case. But the driver can access it while in the park. Always a bonus if you end up spending a lot of time in parking lots waiting for appointments these days.
You will also be able to download content. So if you go on a road trip in the middle of absolutely nowhere, you will still be able to end your show without needing to stream it from the internet. Considering the prevalence of “screens” as a response to my previous question about children’s satisfaction on the road, this will be a boon for families who see each other regularly on the road.
All of this is going well, but it begs a big question: what are these screens going for? see like? It’s a thing to provide a bit of neat technology to keep parents all over the world sane. It’s another to do it on a screen that sticks out from the rest of the interior like a sore thumb. But we won’t know any more until the 11th.
