If you're curious about what makes this engine a "third generation", Ram says he has a new water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger that promises both increased responsiveness and increased efficiency.

In addition, the mark indicates that the intake ports have been revised to improve the swirl and that the exhaust gas recirculation configuration now incorporates a low and high pressure system. According to Ram, the new low-pressure EGR "sucks the gases after the diesel particulate filter, thus minimizing turbocharger energy losses and thus increasing fuel economy".

Revised engine compression ratio has gone from 16.5: 1 to 16: 1, injectors have been updated and Ram says pistons with thinner rings and new coatings on pin and side skirts reduce friction. The brand also mentions improvements to the NVH resulting from the modification of the wrist pin offset and the use of a lightweight two-piece polymer / polymer casing.

According to Ram, the 2020 1500 EcoDiesel is "the most powerful half-ton diesel pickup in the US", but that does not seem entirely correct, as the next inline-six diesel engine of 3, 0 liters of Chevrolet should produce 277 horses, 17 more than the Ram.

Nevertheless, the Chevrolet is rated at 460 pound-feet of torque and the F-150 diesel only makes 440, so the Ram beat them. And in the world of heavyweight marketing – the couple is all that matters, so it's a big problem.

We will learn more about the price of the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 2020 and the fuel consumption values ​​later, but according to Ram, the vehicle should "lead the segment in fuel economy". For reference, the Ford F-150 diesel engine gets a 30 MPG highway and 25 handsets, so that should be good.

The press release also states that the maximum towing capacity of the new Ram EcoDiesel is respectable of 12,560 pounds, only 190 less than that of a 5.7-liter DT Ram equipped with a V8, but greater than the capacity 11,400-pound F-150 diesel.
