TThe New York Times apologized Saturday for an internationally published cartoon in which "anti-Semitic tropes" are included.
The caricature was a drawing of President Trump wearing a cap and led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, presented as a service dog for the blind.
A political cartoon in the New York Times' international print edition Thursday included anti-Semitic tropes, describing the Israeli prime minister as a guide dog wearing a Star of David necklace at the head of the US president, shown with a cap, "said the statement on the New York Times' Twitter account.
"The picture was shocking and it was a misjudgment to publish it. It was provided by the New York Times News Service and Syndicate, which has since removed it, "the statement said.
The offending cartoon was not associated with an article.
Netanyahu won his fifth term as prime minister this month, surviving multiple scandals to win the elections.
Trump and Netanyahu have built close relations, adopting aggressive positions in favor of Israel, including moving the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and recognizing Israel's claim to the Golan Heights, where Netanyahu has announced that he would name a colony of the president.
