The Nissan Titan 2020 unveiled at the Texas State Fair

Nissan continues to tinker with its full-size pickup formula. The latest event is the Titan 2020, which the Japanese company unveiled at the Texas State Fair in Dallas, Texas.

Available in two styles of cabin (king cabin or double cabin), the Titan adopts an exterior style revisited that Nissan describes as "powerful warrior". Although its name is glib, this design philosophy adds cohesion to its evolutionary appearance thanks to a forward grille (available in three different styles), a new lower fascia and LED headlights available with nice traffic lights LED "double boomerang". This latter feature is standard on the high-end Pro-4X, SL and Platinum Reserve versions. Nissan also offers Titan in the lower S and SV grades, which do without standard LED lights.

Regardless of their finish, Nissan notes that all Titans have LED tail lights and cool tailgate finishes. The tailgate opening also reveals a new lighting system that uses four LED light sources to illuminate the entire bed.

Inside, the Titan incorporates new cabin technology, including a standard 8.0-inch center screen and an available 9.0-inch drive. The truck is also equipped with additional interior assist handles, improvements in door panel storage pockets and an optional panoramic moonroof on Crew Cab models.

Improvements to the Titan's exterior and interior design are accompanied by some powertrain improvements. Notably, the truck's standard 5.6-liter V8 engine now produces 400 horsepower and 413 lb.-ft. of torque, an additional 10 horsepower and 19 lb-ft of torque. The new Titan grunt is making its way to the wheels with a new, nine-speed automatic transmission that replaces the previous seven-speed unit. A shorter final gear ratio of 3.69: 1 replaces the previous gearbox 2.94: 1.

Thanks to its mechanical updates, the latest Titan has lost nearly a second on the acceleration time of its predecessor, estimated at 50 to 70 miles per hour, according to Nissan.

At the same time, a new "off-road gauge" complements the four-wheel-drive systems, the low-end transfer case, the electronic locking rear tail and the optional Titan Descent Control System (the latter being limited to the Pro model). 4X trim) to make it easier than ever to take Nissan's full-size pickup truck off the beaten track. Using the data from an accelerometer (as opposed to a gyro), the gauge indicates the steering and roll angles of the truck.

The updated Titan also benefits from additional security technologies. Each truck model is equipped with eight airbags (two more than before) and Nissan's Safety Shield 360 safety features series, which consists of automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, and automatic high beam. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, a panoramic view camera and a traffic sign recognition system.

Without a doubt, the Titan 2020 represents a major improvement over the previous model thanks to its improvements in terms of design, technology, powertrain and safety. However, only time will tell if Titan's updates attract enough buyers to place them in the same ranks as their competitors such as the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Ford F-150 and Ram 1500.
