The OnePlus 7 and 7T lines finally have their first glimpse of Android 11

After a delay of more than a month, OnePlus is finally rolling out the long-awaited open beta of Android 11 on the OnePlus 7 and 7T lines.

The update comes in the form of Oxygen OS 11 Open Beta 1 for the OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T and 7T Pro. However, the transition to Android 11 for these phones is not without its challenges, at least for now.

According to the company, the version erases all data from OnePlus 7T devices if you download it from the links provided on the official forum. So you should only download it using the manual method if you are ready to do a full data erase from your phones. OTA updates are not affected by this, the company says, but remember to back up your data.

There are also known issues with the Open Beta for the OnePlus 7 and 7T series. OnePlus warns that there is a potential risk of increased power consumption and instability. The Gallery app may be slower to load under certain conditions and some images may not be displayed. Bluetooth devices such as headphones, speakers, etc. may not be able to output sound occasionally. Finally, the brightness adjustment may be delayed under certain conditions.

Should you update?

It looks like you will have to make a lot of compromises if you download this latest beta of Oxygen OS 11. Even though it will upgrade your phones with things like a new user interface, newly added HEVC codec, dark mode, etc., it’s probably wise to wait for a while and wait for a more stable release.

If you’re still anxious to get the current beta versions of your OnePlus 7 and 7T devices, be aware that they are only available for non-carrier models unlocked from now on. You will need at least 30% battery and at least 3 GB of available storage space to install the update.
