The Overwatch Baptist makes it even harder to kill somebody

Overwatch released his 30th hero, Baptiste, on the game's test server. After playing with this new healer for a while, I'm worried.

Just yesterday I wrote an article about how Apex Legends should learn from Overwatch's mistake and be cautious when creating new heroes. Today, we may be looking at another bad character addition. Or maybe not! Baptiste is still in the testing phase. I could not play with him at this point. And, hey, what do I know anyway? I am not really a pro Overwatch player.

But Batiste points to a lot of things that have slowly decreased Overwatch's playing time in the last six months. In particular, the focus is on tanks and healers while traditional damage merchants take a back seat.

Stay stacked, stay alive

Baptiste has a versatile kit. His weapon can inflict decent damage at a decent distance. An alternate shot fires a grenade that heals the allies. An ability is healed as well as close friends for a short time. Baptiste's ultimate ability creates a kind of transparent wall. All friendly projectiles crossing the wall will gain a damage bonus.

It's already a powerful kit, but none of them is a big source of concern. The ability that has worried me the most is a large cylindrical shield that surrounds it. It does not block all the damage, but anyone under its cover can not be killed. They will always keep a little health. This will encourage the players to get together, and this will help them survive abilities that try to punish the remaining teams, such as Dragonstrike Hanzo, Graviton Surge Zarya or Rip Tire Junkrat. And since this is not his ultimate goal, Baptiste can use this shield quite often.

Baptiste seems to be able to increase the number of health points his team has rendered in care, defense and damage. He has weaknesses. It does not have a good escape solution, so if an enemy targets it, it could get in trouble. It does not matter if he stays close to a team behind his invulnerability shield.

Damage merchants take the bench

At present, the Overwatch meta is dominated by a composition of characters that the community calls GOATS, consisting of teams playing three healers and three tanks. They do not even make fun of using damage characters, because Overwatch tanks and healers can inflict enough damage themselves if they isolate one enemy at a time, while their defensive abilities keep them alive. . The addition of a new healer to increase the team's damage and protect against the moves that should kill them does not seem to want to get rid of GOATS.

Once again, it is too early to say what will be Baptiste's impact on Overwatch. But I'm afraid the addition of a powerful and versatile healer and a meta shield will make Overwatch a less interesting shooter, where staying alive is more important than killing people.

I could be wrong. This shield of invulnerability is not invulnerable in itself. An intelligent team can target its generator and destroy it before using a big hit like Dragonstrike. Of course, this could be a level of coordination that many teams (especially in the lower rankings) will be unable to manage.

Baptiste is fun to play like. Its design is creative. He looks cool and I like his story. I'm just wondering if he's good for the game.
