The parents of the suspect, an uncle among the seven people killed in mass killings in Tennessee

A 25-year-old man is accused of killing seven people – including his parents and uncle – at killings at two separate crime scenes in Sumner County, Tennessee, officials said.

Sumner District Attorney Ray Whitley called the murders "one of the most horrible cases" he has covered. The director of the Tennessee Investigative Bureau, David Rausch, on Monday called the case "macabre" and "complex".

The suspect, 25-year-old Michael Cummins, was found Saturday in a remote area near the crime scene, authorities said. Six people were found dead on a crime scene Saturday and another dead.

The suspect's parents, David Cummins, 51, and Clara Cummins, 44, and his uncle, Charles Hosale, 45, were among the six found dead at the Charles Brown Road scene, Rausch told Reuters. A press conference on Monday.

The authorities are trying to determine the relationship between Michael Cummins and the other victims in the first scene. These victims were identified as 12-year-old Sapphire McGlothlin-Pee; Sapphire's mother, Rachel McGlothlin-Pee; and Sapphire's grandmother, Marsha Nuckols, said the authorities.

The seventh victim, Shirley Fehrle, was found dead at home a short distance from Luby Brown Road, according to the BIT. Fehrle had no known connection with the suspect, the authorities said.

An eighth victim, a relative of Michael Cummins, survived and was in critical condition on Monday, Rausch said.

The police did not say how the victims were killed.

Michael Cummins, who has a criminal record, was shot dead by an officer during his arrest on Saturday and sustained life-threatening injuries, authorities said. He remains hospitalized on Monday and has not been formally charged, the authorities said.
