Mother Nature made sure that the Ogden Raptors and Boise Hawks didn’t have to throw a bunch of positional players in a game that made no sense for the end of the season or the next playoffs.
The Raptors and Hawks hit the middle of the second inning on Friday night in the final game of the Pioneer League regular season before rain and thunderstorms that disrupted preseason football in the area delayed the baseball game.
It was quickly decided to call off the game, cover the pitch and make sure Saturday’s playoff game would not be affected.
The Raptors are ending their first season in the Newly Independent Pioneer League with a record of 54-41. Boise at 48-47.
In the South Division, Ogden won the first half (record: 29-19) and Boise the second half (28-19), tying the two for a one-game divisional playoff, winning at 6: 30 Saturday afternoon at Lindquist Field.

Ogden designated hitter and occasionally first baseman David Maberry won the PBL batting title for 2021, ending the season with a 0.412 batting average.
