The Ravens' 16th consecutive victory since the pre-season is accompanied by love at first sight

Lightning shortened their night, but the Ravens' pre-season success continued.

Baltimore won its 16th consecutive preseason game on Thursday night with a 26-15 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The match was interrupted just over three minutes into the fourth quarter, after both teams were sent to the locker room because of lightning and torrential rain at the Lincoln Financial Field. After a short delay, the NFL League office made the decision not to continue the match.

The Ravens have not lost a pre-season game since 2015 and have won in a variety of ways. Starter Lamar Jackson missed the game, but rookie Trace McSorley played well (19-in-28, 203 yards, two touchdowns) and the Ravens took a 26-0 lead to stay in control.

"We took part in a number of starters in attack, our starting defense played two rounds," said Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. "I thought Trace was doing a hell of a job. Our defense played very well. … Then the lightning has arrived.

The Eagles and Ravens were on the same page when the storm arrived. It did not make sense to restart the game.

"All players on both sides were of this opinion, as were the coaches," Harbaugh said. "Sending the guys there after sitting in the air conditioning for a long time would have been crazy, and I think it would have exposed them to an excessive risk of injury. It was a good decision. I thought the league had done a great job. Common sense was really good.

Asked about the importance of winning 16 consecutive pre-season games, Harbaugh said, "I think it's important that our coaches do a great job of training camp. We have developed the players very well. I think we do a very good job as an organization (scouts, coaches, everyone), with competitors and good football players. They want to work hard at the training camp. Maybe we are going a little forward, maybe you can say that, with the way we practice, how we prepare.

The Ravens finish their pre-season next week on the road against the Washington Redskins.
