The adaptation of the science fiction novel by Warner Bros. and Legendary will begin November 20, 2020.

Warner Bros. put a trip to dune.

The studio announced Friday that the adaptation of science fiction to the great budget of filmmaker Denis Villeneuve will open November 20, 2020 in IMAX and 3D.

The main cast of Legendary includes Timothee Chalamet in the lead, Paul Atreides, as well as Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin. Jason Momoa, Zendaya and Oscar Isaac are also in talks to join the cast.

dune is an adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic 1965 novel, set in the distant future, and tells a sprawling story of betrayals and intrigue taking place on the desert planet of Arrakis, which contains a rare and valuable spice drug coveted in the galaxy. The novel spawned several book suites, as well as a film adaptation of David Lynch in 1984.

Villeneuve dune Filming should begin in the spring in places such as Budapest and Jordan. Villeneuve wrote the screenplay with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts, and also produced with Mary Parent and Cale Boyter. Previous Villeneuve director's effort, Blade Runner 2049, went bust at the box office when it opened in October 2017, but earned the kind of praise from critics that Villeneuve has become accustomed to through such films as Sicario (2015) and Arrival (2016), which earned him a nomination for the best director at the Oscars.

In dune, Rebecca Ferguson plays Jessica, the mother of Chalamet's character. She recently spoke with The Hollywood journalist on the portrayal of a member of the Bene Gesserit, an ancient and powerful order of women in the dune universe.

"The Bene Gesserit is what it is in itself," Ferguson said.

Warner Bros. also set release dates for Sundance's upcoming film Blinded by the light, which will open on August 14, followed by November 1 by director Edward Norton Motherless Brooklyn.
