Second mega Covid-19 vaccination site planned for Minute Maid Park

UPDATE – All new appointments for the January 16 COVID-19 mega site at Minute Maid Park are booked. The 2,600 new locations filled up 16 minutes after opening.
Additional vaccination opportunities will be announced as the supply increases.
HOUSTON – Houston Department of Health and Astros Foundation team up for second COVID-19 vaccine mega site at Minute Maid Park on Saturday, January 16 by appointment only.
The ministry plans to vaccinate around 5,000 people, through 2,400 pre-scheduled appointments and 2,600 new appointments.
Individuals who meet Phase 1A or Phase 1B of the state criteria can visit HoustonEmergency.org/covid19 (direct link: http://bit.ly/MMPvaxx011620) starting at 10 a.m. on Friday to schedule new meeting slots. The online meeting portal will close once the slots are occupied.
Saturday’s mega site is for the first dose of vaccine. People who receive their first dose from the health department will be contacted and given information on where to schedule their second dose within the appropriate time frame.
People should arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before their appointment time to ensure site efficiency and reduce wait times. It is important that people park in lots A or B to begin the registration process. The entrance to the Minute Maid Park home plate will be used for the clinic.
The Department of Health began administering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to the general public who qualify under either Phase 1A or Phase 1B of state guidelines on January 2.
The health department received an additional 8,200 doses of the vaccine on Thursday, bringing its total to 30,350.
On Thursday, the department administered a total of 18,658 doses at places such as Minute Maid Park, Bayou City Event Center, its Northside Health Centers, La Nueva Casa de Amigos, Sharpstown and Sunnyside, the JW Peavy Senior Center and its Acres Homes. , Hiram Clarke and Magnolia multiservice centers.
The ministry also transferred a total of 1,900 doses to other suppliers.
The health department will announce additional vaccination opportunities at its health centers, multiservice centers, community sites and via mobile units as supply increases.
Appointments are based on vaccine availability, and current appointments may be adjusted based on service assignment.
Many medical providers offer vaccines based on availability. Eligible people should contact their health care provider or use the Texas Department of State Health Services online map to find and call vaccine providers.

The Department of Health also operates a COVID-19 call center at 832-393-4220 Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The opening hours of the call center are extended until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
