The "smartphone" Alpha Nubia is the craziest notebook to date

[ad_1]

The alpha is not new, though. We first applauded the device at the IFA 2018. Nobody was allowed to touch it, however, and we did not really know what it was capable of. Now, in Barcelona, the company is ready to share its basic specifications and features. The four-inch 960×192 OLED display is manufactured by Visionox, a specialist in flexible displays. According to the company, it is "the largest portable flexible screen in the industry" and is protected by a resistant, heat-resistant polymer called Polyimide. The entire device is also water resistant, although we have not been able to test it today.

The device uses the Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset from Qualcomm, a former hardware component that was eventually replaced by the Wear 3100 last year. You'll also find 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and a 500mAh battery under the hood, which, according to Nubia, should last between one and two days with a single charge. The laptop has Bluetooth, WiFi and 4G eSIM technology, which means that you can theoretically send SMS, call and browse the web without going through a conventional smartphone. There is even a 5 megapixel camera if you want to make unflattering selfies or clumsy videos.

But wait, there is more! The Alpha also serves as a fitness tracker with basic monitoring of sleep, exercise and heart rate. All of these features will be accessible from a "custom portable operating system" that supports voice commands, multitouch gestures and sophisticated gestures. "All your information is perfectly organized and at your fingertips." Infinitely customizable, intuitive and visually stunning, our new portable operating system is a whole new way to interact with what you love most ", said the company in a press release.

The Alpha looks and looks like a Frankenstein machine. It will be sold in three different versions: a black only Bluetooth model for 449 € (about 510 USD), a variant eGs 4G black for 549 € (about 623 USD) and a variant eGs 4G coated with 18K gold for 649 € (about 737 USD). At least one of these models will be released worldwide in 2019.
