The state health department has confirmed a travel-related measles case in Oakland County and has warned of several potential exposure points in southeastern Michigan.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reports in a press release that the case comes after a "visit from Israel as a result of a stay in New York". People may have been exposed to measles at Lincoln Liquor and at RX in Oak Park from 12:20 pm. at 2:45 pm on March 8 and at Jerusalem Pizza in Southfield from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. March 12th and 13th.

"Potentially exposed people are advised to monitor the symptoms 21 days after exposure," warned the state health department in its statement.
"If symptoms appear, it is essential to call in advance the health care provider you plan to visit so that you can take precautions to avoid exposure to other people.
Measles is described as a vaccine-preventable disease that is spread through human contact and air by an infected person. The virus can live up to two hours in the air where the infected person coughs or sneezes, and symptoms usually appear a week or two after exposure.

Major symptoms to watch for include high fever, coughing, runny nose, red and watery eyes, tiny white spots in the mouth and a red rash on the face that spreads to the extremities.
The Oakland County Health Division is offering the MMR vaccine at $ 71 per dose, at 1200 N. Telegraph, Building 34 East at Pontiac and 27725 Greenfield Road, Southfield.
"Measles is a highly contagious respiratory infection," said Dr. Russell Faust, medical director of the Oakland County Health Division, in the release.
"Immunization is the best way to protect our families and communities from vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles, especially in light of recent outbreaks at the national and global levels."
