The damage was investigated as a violent storm caused a series of tornadoes and flood monitoring and warnings.

"We ordered a tornado warning here around 8:53 pm. and it looks like the tornado was shot around 8:59 pm. and he was probably on the ground for a few minutes, "said Chris Strong of the NWS.

Dominion Energy reported nearly 2,500 blackouts in Fairfax County at 11:30 pm Friday.

A big tree had fallen on a truck from Center Harbor Road to Reston. Darcy Spencer of NBC Washington reports that the man's van was destroyed while he was inside his home in search of shelter.

Ed Ault, the owner of the truck, told NBC Washington that he had heard the warning of the tornado and that he had just run to the basement when he had heard the ### 39, accident of the tree. He stayed in the basement for a moment. He found his car under a tree when he came out checking after the wind.

A resident of the Whisper Hill area reported tremors of the house, a loud roar, driving rain and pebbles against the lining of the house.

The strength of the tornado will be assessed Saturday morning, according to the NWS, when they can better see the damage.

The Meteorological Service also reported that several trees had been felled as a result of wind damage.

Earlier Friday, a tornado reportedly hit Franklin County, Virginia, around 10:30 am
