The United States has reported over 4 million coronavirus cases in November, which is higher than the total number of cases observed throughout the year by any country in the world except India and Brazil. Public health experts are a warning that the United States will continue to see record numbers in the last month of 2020.

Since the start of the pandemic, the United States has recorded more than 13.3 million confirmed cases and more than 267,000 deaths, by far the highest number in the world, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. The United States accounts for nearly 20% of the world’s death toll.

India has recorded 9.4 million cases and Brazil 6.3 million, according to data from Johns Hopkins. The other countries with the highest number of cases – including Russia, France, Spain and the UK – have between 1.6 and 2.3 million. There have been a total of 62.8 million confirmed cases and 1.4 million deaths worldwide.

The United States established several new grim records in the pandemic. It exceeded 100,000 daily cases for the first time on November 4, then more than 200,000 daily cases for the first time on November 28. 90,000 hospitalizations for coronavirus for the first time. Hospitals in many communities are at or near capacity and have sounded the alarm being overwhelmed while demand continues to grow.

November 24 was the deadliest day in the pandemic since May, with more than 2,100 coronavirus deaths across the country. About half of the 50 states reported their highest daily toll for the virus, with many states reintroducing restrictions or added the news to try to contain the spread.

The month also brought encouraging news on vaccines, with three candidates reporting to be over 90% effective, and the first American vaccinations expected to begin in December once the FDA grants emergency clearance. Health workers would be among the first to get vaccinated.

Moncef Slaoui, leader of the U.S. government’s Operation Warp Speed ​​vaccination effort, said there could be enough doses for 25 to 30 million Americans per month in 2021.

But the United States is on the verge of even worse days in the pandemic before a vaccine becomes widely available. The CDC said the death toll in the United States could strike 321,000 in mid-December.

Dr Anthony Fauci, the country’s leading infectious disease specialist, warned more peaks would come after millions of people traveled for Thanksgiving – something public health officials have advised Americans to avoid.

“We could see wave upon wave,” Fauci told ABC News “This Week” on Sunday. “We don’t want to scare people, but that’s just the reality.”
