The US Women's National Team will have its day in court. A judge has decided that the trial of the American football team against women for sex discrimination go to the trial in May 2020, according to Andrew Das of the New York Times.

It is much earlier than expected. Both parties proposed that the trial be held in December 2020. The judge decided to speed up the process. Players are happy with the new timeline.

After years of fighting for equal pay, the USWNT sued US Soccer for "sex discrimination" in March. The players' argument drew even more attention when the women's team won another World Cup in July. During the team's celebration, US Football President Carlos Cordeiro sang equal pay. The congressmen were also involved in introducing a bill that would prevent money from participating in the 2026 World Cup unless the women's team receives equal pay.

American football rejected the ideal of equal pay, saying the women's team had been adequately compensated. In August, US Soccer hired lobbyists to defend its cause.

On Wednesday, the two parties met to try to find common ground on the issue. These talks failed, prompting a judge to set a date for the trial.
