Booster Shots for Older Americans

Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention booster injections approved for millions of elderly or otherwise vulnerable people Americans, opening a major new phase in the US vaccination campaign against COVID-19.

CDC director Dr Rochelle Walensky on Thursday evening approved a set of recommendations from a panel of advisers.

The advisers said boosters should be offered to people 65 and older, residents of nursing homes, and people aged 50 to 64 who have underlying health conditions at risk.

The extra dose will be given once they are at least six months after their last shot of Pfizer.

Early polling places

After a public grill, the Richmond Voters’ Registrar is now going open two satellite early polling stations.

One at Hickory Hill Community Center, the other at Richmond Town Hall. The Hickory Hill Community Center serves the southern part of the city and the Town Hall is located in the downtown area.

Currently, the only early voting option is the Richmond Registrar of Electors office on Laburnum Avenue.

Once open next week, these two early polls will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Weekend voting options will be offered in October.

Mass shooting at Kroger

One person died and 12 others were injured Thursday in a mass shooting in a Kroger grocery store in a suburb of Memphis, according to police.

WMC reported Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane said the suspected gunman was also dead, apparently from a self-inflicted injury.

The names of the suspect and the victims have not been made public.

Nine victims are at Regional One Hospital in Memphis, four of whom are in critical condition.

Arrest warrant for Brian Laundrie

Gabby Petito’s boyfriend, whose body was found in a Wyoming national park after traveling across the country with him, was accused of unauthorized use a debit card as researchers continued to search for it Thursday in the Florida swamps.

A federal indictment in Wyoming U.S. District Court alleges Brian Laundrie used a Capital One Bank card and someone’s personal identification number to make unauthorized withdrawals or charges valued at over $ 1,000 during the period that Petito disappeared.

Loudoun County judge faces backlash

A judge from northern Virginia has rejected motions asking him to reconsider a 10-day prison sentence for contempt of court inflicted on a woman he believed to be intoxicated when she testified at trial.

Katie Orndoff was sentenced earlier this month by Loudoun County Judge James Fisher.

She had testified in a domestic assault trial against her boyfriend, who was accused of hitting her.

The judge stopped the trial when he believed Orndoff was acting erratically and questioned her about drug use. He sent her to jail for contempt of court after she admitted to smoking marijuana.

The Virginia State Fair has arrived! ??

The the fair will return featuring fan favorites such as the halfway rides, pig races, live music, chainsaw artist Ben Risney and two nights of rodeo. Artist, culinary and horticultural competitions will also take place at the fair.

Sign for human remains found

Virginia Commonwealth University will be unveiling of four panels dedicated to human remains found in an abandoned well on the MCV campus.

The remains were discovered during construction 27 years ago. The remains, which were brought back to campus in 2019, are believed to be of African origin and discarded by medical staff in the 1800s.

A discussion on the remains will take place at the Kontos Auditorium at 12:30 p.m. on September 24.
