The warning about dog treats with pig ears continues because of the risk of drug-resistant salmonella

(CNN) – Authorities always advise people to avoid all treats with dog pig ears due to the risk of multidrug-resistant salmonella.

The CDC and the FDA have stated that people can get sick by handling treats.

Sixteen new cases were reported last month, bringing the total to 143 diseases in 35 states.

No deaths have been reported.

Diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps are signs of Salmonella infection. The dogs may have had diarrhea and vomiting and look more tired than usual.
