The press day at the 2019 New York International Auto Show is over. What reveals us most impressed and which left us wanting more?

Subaru and Lincoln, Toyota, Acura, Cadillac and many other auto brands made headlines in Manhattan this week. From subcompact crossovers to luxury sedans, from three-row utility vehicles to original concepts, many important products have been unveiled. Naturally, we had a few favorites and a few we did not like as much, oh, even some vehicles that separated the difference.

WINNER: Toyota Highlander 2020

Toyota Highlander 2020

First, the all-new Toyota Highlander 2020. This three-row family carrier has been completely redesigned since the foundation. Driving now on a variant of the manufacturer's ubiquitous TNGA architecture, it should offer more comfort, refinement and features than ever before. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard, as is Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which includes features such as sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, and more. A 295 horsepower V6 engine pulls near the mainline models, but a hybrid transmission will also be offered. Gasoline versions of this fourth-generation SUV are expected to be released in December, the hybrid variant in February.

WINNER: Subaru Outback 2020

2020 Subaru Outback

Unquestionably, one of the most significant revelations in New York this year has been the Subaru Outback 2020. Built at the top of the Japanese automaker's latest global vehicle architecture, this versatile SUV should provide world-class safety ratings and be equipped with many technologies, including the Subaru EyeSight driver assistance suite. A 2.5-liter basic boxer-four delivers a respectable 182 horsepower, but a 2.4-liter turbo engine is also offered to drivers who want more dizziness. He delivers 260 muscular ponies. In typical Subaru fashion, all-wheel drive is as standard as doors, exterior paint or glass windows.

WINNER: Location Hyundai 2020

Location Hyundai 2020

Our last winner of the New York Auto Show is the tiny Hyundai Venue. When this subcompact crossover will go on sale in the fourth quarter of the year, it should become the most affordable SUV in the automaker's broad lineup. A sub-compact offer, you can sort of think of a Korean version of the Nissan Kicks, an affordable and appreciated vehicle. The only engine on the site (at least in America) is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder, with probably about 130 horsepower. It can be adapted to a standard six-speed manual transmission or an available CVT transmission. Expect to have many standard on-site amenities and plenty of optional driving aids in this very sophisticated crossover.

UNDECIDED: Volkswagen Tarok

Volkswagen Tarok Concept

Our first undecided rendezvous in New York is the Volkswagen Tarok, a small concept truck that debuted in the US in New York. It was revealed for the first time at the Sau Paolo Motor Show last year. This pickup is based on VW's MQB monocoque architecture and measures less than 194 inches long. Despite its small size, the Tarok can still carry more than you think thanks to its innovative bed, which can be extended in the back seat, much like an old Chevrolet Avalanche. This concept sounds great, but the problem is that Volkswagen does not intend to offer it in the United States, although they are supposed to measure the interest of customers. If you like what you see here, you'd better let them know.

UNDECIDED: Concept Genesis Mint

concept genesis mint

The next vehicle AutoGuide.com The editors were split on a design study of Genesis, the latest South Korean luxury car brand. The Mint Concept is a tiny, all-electric urban runabout that can accommodate two people, but there is a luggage shelf behind the seats to store luggage or goods. With a sleek exterior, the cabin of this vehicle is just as delightful, with lots of leather and a sober design. The driving distance is estimated at 322 km, which seems quite low but, again, in the dense metropolis where this car is intended to be used, it is probably more than enough. Genesis does not intend to offer a production version of the Mint concept, at least not yet.

NOT DECIDED: Cadillac CT5 2020

Our last outstanding selection is the Cadillac CT5, a brand new sedan from GM's luxury division. Based on a rear-wheel drive architecture, motivated by a turbocharged V6 with four or two turbo and even available with the exceptional Super Cruise system of the brand, there is MUCH more to like here. But there are also some things that come out shake our head, like the overall proportions. Does anyone else see a little Chevy Cruze in the roof? In addition, Cadillac introduces a new way of distinguishing powertrains by listing the torque of each engine expressed in Newton-meters and rounding to the nearest 50. Confused? You should be.

LOSER: Mazda CX-5 Diesel 2019

As for the losers, our first is the Mazda CX-5 diesel, an unexpected choice. Admittedly, we love the high-end interior and excellent road-going qualities of this crossover, but this compression ignition engine has experienced more delays than American Airlines operating from Chicago O'Hare during a storm. of snow. The culprit is an extremely slow 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D unit that delivers an estimated power of 168 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. In addition, this engine comes at a time when diesel is under surveillance for its reputation less flawless. As competition evolves with hybrids and electric vehicles, the CX-5 feels a little late.

LOSER: 2020 Acura TLX PMC Edition

Acura TLX PMC

The next loser on this list is the Acura TLX PMC Edition, a hand-made sport sedan, much hotter than steak. Unexpectedly, it was built in Ohio at the company's Performance Manufacturing Center, AKA, where the NSX supercar is installed. It can be said that the only outstanding feature of this sport sedan is its brilliant paint job. The color in question is called Valencia Red Pearl and was previously reserved exclusively for the NSX. In total, it takes five days to paint one of these TLXs, which undergoes the same manual inspection process as that given to exotic Acura. The production of the PMC edition is limited to 360 examples. They will cost about $ 50,000 each and should go on sale this summer.

LOSER: 2020 Nissan 370Z 50th Anniversary Edition

In conclusion, the Nissan 370Z 50th Anniversary Edition is our latest LOSER of the New York Auto Show. Yes, this car is fun to drive, and yes, this vintage inspired race livery looks exceptionally cool, but the current Z is so old at this point that you can practically hear its bones cracking in looking at his pictures. Such an important and respected plaque deserves so much more for its 50th birthday only two-tone painting and some pieces to bolt. Come on, guys, give us a brand new Z!
