OAKLAND, Calif. – When a fan ran into the field during the Blue Jays-Athletics game, he was thrown by referee Jeff Nelson.
Literally, actually.
Nelson, 53, quickly put an end to the fan frenzy at the Oakland Coliseum on Saturday, grabbing the man with both hands near the second base and, aided by a security guard, throwing him to the ground.
A few rounds after a fan ran into the field and was apprehended while he was trying to get back in the seats, a nervous man rushed to the diamond in the left field during the end of the ninth inning.
The fan touched the second base, went to the first, and headed for the mound where he began to move. Toronto security officers observing him and the security personnel monitoring him, the man took off for the second time, tagged the bag, and then reduced the grass under the field.
Working at second base, Nelson ended the pursuit when he helped put the man down.
He went out!
The incident occurred shortly before Toronto closed a 10-1 win.
