CD Projekt Red has announced a slight increase in revenue for the third calendar quarter – the last quarter before the launch of its highly anticipated RPG, Cyberpunk 2077.

In the three-month period ending September 30, 2020, the Polish company earned PLN 105 million ($ 28 million), up 13% from the same quarter last year.

The most important game in the CD Projekt Red team was The Witcher 3 and its expansions, which continues to financially support the company on multiple platforms five years after its release.

Other notable products for the quarter were also tied to the same IP, in the form of the Gwent and Thronebreaker card games: The Witcher Tales.

However, while The Witcher’s enduring popularity is impressive, it hasn’t resulted in growth. Sales of CD Projekt Red games were mostly flat year-on-year, but the revenue of the distribution platform GOG.com increased from PLN 31.5 million in the third quarter of the year last at PLN 40.5 million this year.

CD Projekt Red made a net profit of PLN 23.4 million ($ 6.2 million) in the third quarter, up 57% from the same quarter last year.

These results represent the last full quarter before the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, which has required a significant investment in development over the past four quarters.

According to CD Projekt Red, it spent around PLN 219 million ($ 58.4 million) on “development projects” between the start of the fourth quarter of 2019 and the end of the third quarter of 2020. In contrast, its expenses for l the previous year were below PLN 120. million ($ 32 million).

Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled to launch on December 10. CD Projekt Red has advertising campaigns planned in 55 countries, in 34 languages.

“The game’s final trailer was viewed nearly 23 million times within three days of release,” Adam KiciƄski, CEO of CD Projekt Red, said in a statement. “And that’s not all – the peak of the promotional campaign is scheduled for the first days of December.”
