This month’s full moon will be the first super moon of the year, an astronomical phenomenon where the moon is slightly closer to Earth and therefore appears larger and brighter in the sky.
Southern Native American tribes call a full moon that occurs in March the moon “Worm” because of the thrown earthworm – soil that the worms digest – that becomes visible when the ground thaws.
This year’s “Worm” super moon is the fourth brightest moon of 2021, according to Earth Sky. It was at its peak at 2:48 p.m. ET Sunday.
