ODESSA, Texas (KOSA / Gray News) – ODESSA, Texas (KOSA / Gray News) – The youngest person touched Saturday by the mass shot was a 17-month-old girl.

Anderson Davis, left, was injured in the shootout while she was sitting in her car seat next to her twin brother. His mother, Kelsy Davis, is grateful to the paramedics on leave who helped on the scene. (Source: family photo / KOSA / Gray News)

Just hours after the child's departure from the child, the girl's parents recounted these horrible moments and also shared their gratitude, KOSA reported.

"What people will probably tell you is that she is happy and smiling," said Kelby Davis, describing her young daughter Anderson.

Since she is almost a year and a half old, it is hoped that Anderson will have no lasting memory of Saturday's tragedy.

"I really went so fast," said Garret Davis, Anderson's father. "I did not know in which direction [the bullets] were coming or what was really happening. "

"I knew we had been shot, but I never realized that one of us would be touched," recalls Kelby Davis. "In fact, I thought," How can I cover these two babies at the same time? "

Anderson and his twin brother were tied to their car seats to get to the grocery store. A shot hit their SUV from behind, while the family was stopped at a fire.

"I watched Anderson. She was just covered with blood, so much blood that you could not even see her face, "said Kelby Davis.

Anderson was shot in the face and shrapnel also struck him in the chest.

While Kelby and Garret Davis were screaming for help and trying to call 911, paramedics rushed. The family had come across first responders during a recent trip to an Odessa fire station.

"Angels are everywhere," said Kelby Davis. "Some men were at my window and they said," Kelby, it's me. Kelby, it's me. "

These paramedics came directly to help Anderson.

"The paramedics and all the first responders, their training is absolutely amazing and they are really calm in the middle of the storm," explained Garret.

Anderson was quickly flown to a Lubbock hospital for emergency treatment.

She has since been released and has returned home to Odessa.

"I'm grateful to Anderson for being here," said Kelby Davis, with tears in her eyes. "I'm so grateful that I'm not part of those families who are on the other side of the situation, that almost makes you feel guilty, but that's why I just have to remember that God does not cause such tragedies, but that he will walk with us all through all this.

It is this strong Christian faith, as well as the love of the family for their hometown, Odessa, which helps them to carry them out.

"That's why we're proud and the people here because they come together and get together," said Kelby Davis. Bad things will happen wherever you live. But we know that here is our home and that's where our support system is, and that made all the difference in this situation. "

GoFundMe has compiled a list of campaigns created to help victims, including the one created for Anderson, 17 months old.
