As of Tuesday, seven mass vaccination sites will have opened in suburban Cook County as Illinois begins the next phase of its vaccine rollout, opening doses to “essential frontline workers” and the elderly 65 years of age and over.
Operated with the assistance of the Illinois National Guard, sites include:

Phase 1B opens immunization to several groups, including first responders, education workers like teachers and support staff, educators, grocery store workers, postal service workers and more.
A website was launched at noon Monday for residents of Cook County to receive information and make appointments as soon as they are available. (Click on Here for more. A call center will also be online at noon at (833) 308-1988.)
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, accompanied by Cook County Council Chairman Toni Preckwinkle, visited the Tinley Park mass vaccination site on Monday, which is due to open on Tuesday.
“Widespread vaccination sites will allow us to quickly and efficiently get these doses of life-saving vaccines to the people of Illinois as more federal vaccine shipments come online,” Pritzker said in a statement. “The Illinois National Guard and the Illinois Department of Public Health are proud to partner with Cook County to launch the Tinley Park Convention Center vaccination site – our seventh collaboration in Cook County in as a whole, along with many others across the state. “
Appointments are required, according to the Village of Tinley Park, which said appointments can only be made through state and county websites.
County officials expect to be able to administer up to 3,000 vaccines per day “when the Tinley Park site is fully optimized and a suitable vaccine is available.”
The governor said current vaccination sites in the state are only available by appointment, but the state plans to launch walk-in sites in the coming weeks.
There are several ways for eligible residents to get vaccinated, but state officials urged patience as the new phase opens.
As of Monday, sites run by the National Guard began vaccinating residents eligible for Phase 1B, as well as sites at Jewel Osco and Walgreens, Pritzker said, noting that CVS is expected to “follow soon.”
By February 1, other pharmacies, including Hy-Vee, Mariano’s and Kroger, will also begin vaccinations, Pritzker said.

Supplemental immunization sites are expected to open statewide, including hundreds of additional online pharmacy providers through a partnership with the Illinois Department of Public Health, according to the state’s website.
“As the state moves forward with its plan and continues to build capacity, smaller independent pharmacies, emergency care clinics, doctors’ offices and workplaces will all come online for serve as vaccination sites, ”the state website says. “Additional teams from [Illinois National Guard] will also be deployed in regions of the State to set up new sites and develop additional capacities on existing sites. “
