This could be Marriott's response to Airbnb

In addition to allowing people to rent houses or apartments for short stays, the new Marriott service would allow customers to purchase and redeem the company's Bonvoy loyalty points when renting. The newspaper announced that the service could be unveiled next month. Marriott declined to comment on the magazine's report.

Marriott operates 7,000 properties, including W Hotels, Ritz-Carlton and Courtyard brands. It is implanted in 130 countries, which represents more than a million rooms. Airbnb has 6 million listings in more than 190 countries in 81,000 cities, according to the company.

Marriott offers a smaller-scale housing sharing program in four European cities, including London, Rome and Lisbon, Portugal. The program, which allows Marriott members to earn and redeem loyalty points when selecting high-end homes, will form the basis for future service, the Journal said.

Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky said in "CBS This Morning" that Marriott's plan was an "unbelievable testimony" to its brand. "We welcome them into space," he said.

In response to Marriott's strategy, Airbnb is embarking on the hotel business. He bought the startup HotelTonight last month, a booking application for last-minute travelers.
Airbnb, which represents about $ 31 billion, was designed to create a platform that helps people in all aspects of the journey, including where to stay, what to do and how to get there. It has also invested up to $ 200 million in OYO, an Indian hotel company that wants to become the largest chain in the world in the next five years.

The company also announced on Sunday its partnership with RXR Reality in New York to soon open a ten-storey full-service hotel at 75 Rockefeller Plaza in midtown Manhattan. Rooms include Airbnb-like features, such as kitchens and living rooms, and will be hosted by "hosts" who will guide you throughout the city.

Acquisitions and investments help Airbnb diversify its business and become public. Chesky told CBS's morning television show that this could happen "later this year".
