This Friday, the 13th edition of the Micro Harvest Moon will not happen again before 500 years

This evening, Charlotte will witness one of the rarest lunar phenomena over the centuries: a harvest moon this Friday the 13th.

On average, the full moon occurring any Friday, December 13th occurs only about 1% of the time, not to mention that tonight's moon is also a harvest moon and a micro-moon and that you have an exceptionally rare (and probably superstitious) lunar occurrence.

"Harvest Moon" is the term given to the full moon that occurs closest to the autumnal equinox (this year, the equinox will fall on September 23).

A "micro-moon" is essentially the opposite of a "super-moon" and occurs when the moon is at its peak (the farthest point of Earth in the orbit of the Moon).

Next Friday, the 13th Micro Moon will not happen again for more than 500 years, and we do not know if there will be another Friday, the 13th Micro Harvest Moon.
