Boneyard founder to get stake in Deschutes as part of deal
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – In Bend, beer is big business, which is why a new business partnership announced Wednesday between Deschutes Brewery and Boneyard Beer is big news.
Deschutes Brewery President Michael LaLonde told NewsChannel 21: “What is happening is Deschutes is taking over the Boneyard brand and all of their beer brands, their recipes, the location they have in Lake , which is the original pub and Boneyard tasting room. “
Boneyard co-founder Tony Lawrence gets a stake in the deal.
“Tony becomes the owner of the Deschutes brewery,” said LaLonde. “So it’s really that Deschutes is going to have his brand, backed by everyone in the business. Tony is going to have the freedom to pursue his brand.”
Lawrence said he was excited about the potential of this deal for his longtime passionate brand.
“When I travel outside of the region and see customer feedback or their interest, or their own curiosity,” Lawrence said. “Now we can implement that and see where the Boneyard brand stands in history, along the West Coast, and where our IPAs and the liquids we produce really fall.”
Deschutes founder Gary Fish said the announcement quickly became big news in the beer and craft brewing world.
“Since we made the announcement at 10 am this morning, we’ve responded to a call from across the country about this deal and the possibility of getting the Boneyard trademark,” Fish said.
When asked if Boneyard is going to start mass distribution, like the Deschutes Brewery, LaLonde says they have big plans – but they’ll be taking small steps.
“Right now we have a lot of big plans for Boneyard, but we want to make sure he is successful,” he said. “These will be small steps. Right now they have a distribution in Oregon, a bit in Washington, a bit in Northern California. That’s where we’re going to focus, and once we fill up. this footprint, that’s when we’re going to think of other geographies. “
