To encourage Michiganders to get vaccinated against COVID-19, a local marijuana dispensary is running a “Pot for Shots” promotion.
Anyone who provides written proof that they received a COVID-19 vaccine at the Walled Lake greenhouse will receive a free pre-rolled joint, the dispensary said in a press release.
“Our goal is to raise awareness of the importance of getting vaccinated against COVID-19 as we, as a community, fight this horrific pandemic,” owner Jerry Millen said in a statement. “Pot for Shots” is our way of showing our commitment to helping the community get back to normal. We support the safe and responsible use of cannabis and hope this is the start of the end of this insidious pandemic. ”
No purchase is necessary. The Walled Lake greenhouse is located at 103 E. Walled Lake Dr., Walled Lake; 833-644-7336; greenhousemi.com.
Health officials fear that if an insufficient number of people get vaccinated, the pandemic will last a long time, allowing the virus to mutate into other strands. Over the weekend, officials reported that a woman from Washtenaw County who had recently traveled to the UK tested positive for a more contagious variant of the virus.
Fueled by mistrust of the government and historical examples of racism, less than half of Americans said they would definitely receive the vaccine, and about a quarter said they would not, according to a recent Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research survey.
Vaccines are a priority for frontline workers and seniors, while the rest of us should have access to them in the months to come. You can read more about immunization prioritization here.
