Thomas Tuchel has delivered the news of the Chelsea side facing Aston Villa in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Chelsea welcome Dean Smith’s side to Stamford Bridge for the second time in September, this time in the Cup as they both seek to advance to the fourth round.
It’s been an unbeaten start for the Blues so far this season, and it has been due to injury and fitness issues on the other side.
Chelsea were without Christian Pulisic (ankle) and Edouard Mendy on Sunday afternoon against Tottenham due to injury, and Tuchel provided an update on the team’s condition in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Mendy has emerged from the clash against Villa, with no update given on Pulisic’s return.
“Mendy can’t play, he wasn’t in training,” Tuchel said. “We are trying to do everything for Saturday to reinstate him tomorrow in individual training and I hope in Thursday’s team but not yet.
He added other changes to the side: “It’s a question of the number of games and the load we had on the players.
“We have had intensive games. We will have changes. There will be changes. We take this opportunity to give important minutes and competition to the guys who are missing the minutes right now.”
