Thousands of fetuses were found in an Illinois property belonging to a recently deceased doctor who had performed abortions, authorities said Friday.

A lawyer representing Dr. Ulrich Klopfer on Thursday informed the Will County Coroner's Office in Illinois that the doctor's family had discovered the remains through his property after his death on September 3, the office said. from the local sheriff in a statement.

Klopfer has performed abortions in Indiana and clinics in South Bend, Fort Wayne and Gary, according to NBC News affiliate, WNDU, of South Bend, in Indiana.

The state suspended Klopfer's license in 2015. WNDU reported that he had been accused of twice practicing abortions on 13-year-old girls without having properly forwarded his records to the department. of state health.

The doctor is believed to have performed 2,405 abortions between January 2012 and November 2013, the channel quoted the Attorney General's office as saying.

The Will County Sheriff's Office stated that there was no evidence that the procedures had been carried out on the property where the remains had been found.
