SPRING HILL, Fla. (WFLA) – The Florida Department of Health in Hernando has identified a positive case of hepatitis A in a food service employee at the Silverthorn County Club in Spring Hill.
The employee may have clients exposed between April 12 and April 30.
People who consumed food or beverages at the restaurant from April 12 to April 16 may have been exposed to the virus and must monitor the onset of the symptoms of the infection.
News Channel 8 has learned that thousands of high school students who have attended the prom at the country club finalists may have been exposed to the disease.
We hear high school students from Springstead, Central, Weeki Wachee and Nature Coast probably explained.
Cathy Czyr did not take any chances. His son and his girlfriend attended the end-of-year prom in Silverthorn.
"And, the more I thought about it, the more angry I was – you do not wash your hands after going to the bathroom – I wash myself like a surgeon every time," said Czyr.
"It's amazing, it's crazy to think that because all these people have to go out of their way to eat and drink food," student student Alyssa Fiorvante said.
Symptoms include sudden onset of abdominal discomfort, dark urine, fever, diarrhea and yellow skin and eyes (jaundice).
Anyone with symptoms should consult a doctor promptly.
DOH-Hernando offers free hepatitis A vaccine in Spring Hill, at the Ministry of Health's premises, for extended hours from May 1st to May 3rd and May 6th to May 8th at 7 pm They will start beating at 8 o'clock.
The doors of the Department of Health open at 7 am and a large crowd is expected Thursday.
The vaccine can confer protection against the disease if it is administered within two weeks of exposure.
DOH-Hernando recommends the vaccine to anyone who ate or drank at the restaurant between 17 and 30 April.
