Thousands of people expected to participate in the Long Beach Marathon

Long Beach, CA (KABC) -Annual Long and Half Marathons are back! Last year, due to a pandemic, the event had to be virtual.

2021 marks the 37th edition of the marathon.

More than 10,000 runners are expected on the weekends of October 9 and 10.

Start and end at Shoreline Drive in downtown Long Beach.

However, due to COVID-19 this year, there are safety protocols to follow and there are some differences runners should be aware of.

And while many new runners are present, some runners come back every year, like the legacy runners who have been participating in this marathon for 10 years!

Weekend races include a fun ride on the Aquarium of the Pacific 5K, a 13.1 mile half marathon, and a 20 mile bike ride.
