Three brothers and sisters and a family friend heading to a dance competition were killed in a car accident in Texas, officials said Sunday.

The mother of the siblings who was driving was in a coma of a hospital in Austin, KXAN reported. They were traveling to San Antonio to watch a brother play in a national dance contest when the accident occurred in central Texas.

The siblings were in grades six, eight and eleven, the Huntsville Independent School District said in a statement. Irwin graduated from a Huntsville High School last year.

"The death of a young person, let alone four years, is a loss that affects us all," said the district.

According to the Texas Transportation Department, these four people were killed by a Ford pickup truck "that failed to control its speed" and broke into the family's Toyota Corolla, according to the KXAN.
