Angels 13, Tigers 0This match featured Albert Pujols' 2,000th RBI and four more – and two circuits – from Tommy La Stella. Pujols is a member of the Hall of Famer and we knew that it would eventually reach 2,000 people. The Stella, meanwhile, has nine circuits in 32 games. Prior to this season, he had 10 homers in 396 career games. The Angels opened the scoring here and after their departure, Felix Pena threw seven scoreless innings, giving only three hits and hitting seven.
Indians 5, White Sox 0: This game knew the bare minimum – five rounds – because of the rain. I felt that the White Sox had enough, though. They had Carlos Carrasco's bupkis, who only allowed two hits in five shutouts, including six. Jordan Luplow conceded two goals for Cleveland, both in solo.
It was good that they called the game for the rain, though. The outside field was so slippery that it affected not only the terrain, but also the brain of the official scorer:
Small 4, Marlins 1: A special of Yu Darvish. A knock! A race! But only four rounds because he walked six goals, took out seven and needed 97 shots to go that far. The guy has talent and when he was younger, it was electric to watch, but my God is it. . . an experience these days. Rockies 12, Giants 11: It was 39 degrees at the first step and there was a snowpocalypse in Denver, but that did not stop everyone from hitting:
That certainly did not stop Nolan Arenado, who made a deep pass, had three hits and reached the base five times. Ian Desmond and Mark Reynolds also dominated. The Colorado quickly took the lead 7-0, but the match was tied at eight by six because that's what's happening in Denver. Chris Iannetta however managed a double in the sixth in the sixth to prevent the Rockies from ruining everything. Giants first baseman Tyler Austin scored two goals and six points in a losing cause. There was some controversy here too, when Happ slapped Dee Gordon on the wrist, when his wrist happened to be near his head. Gordon was salty after the match because he did not like Happ's arrival, but there was no reason to believe it was intentional. I get angry when I hit my thumb with a hammer too. Does not mean I wanted to do it. The M lost nine out of 11.
Cardinals 17, Pirates 4: St. Louis scored those 17 points without benefiting from a circuit and sent nine hitters to the plate on three occasions in the first six innings. Marcell Ozuna drove four, three on a double and one at the choice of the field player. Paul Goldschmidt reached the base four times and had three hits and two runs. Dexter Fowler drove on three. Fowler blames the explosion on himself and his wife, who took several other players and their wives for karaoke after Wednesday's bad game. No word on what they sang, but for the recording, my favorite is still "Ugly" by James. And yes, I can hit those high notes.
Astros 4, Rangers 2: Josh Reddick defeated the singles with a decisive point in Game 6 and made a decisive pass to save the match and beat Hunter Pence with two men at the base:
Wade Miley outclassed Mike Minor, allowing two runs on just two hits and bringing seven out of six.
Diamondbacks 3, Braves 2He was 1-1 in the ninth when Josh Donaldson and David Peralta traded solo circuits to send to extras. The Dbacks regrouped in their tenth half with a walk and consecutive singles out of the Braves A.J. Minter relay, the second single was an RBI by Ketel Marte. Ball game. Good job, Braves Bullpen. Capital effort. There was a robbery in this one too, with Adam Jones stealing a Ronald Acuña Jr. dinger:
What I like most about this is when Jones puts his glove on his thigh, which is the gesture that field observers make to report "I had that one". confident that he knows that he has one that would otherwise have crossed the fence.
National 6, Dodgers 0: The Nats have been on the ice lately but Patrick Corbin has played stopped by throwing seven innings of white play. The Nats earned three Rich Hill points early on a Howie Kendrick circuit. Kendrick is one of those guys you have to remember he's still in the league, then you look up and see that he hits .325 / .383 / .588 with six circuits of the year.
