Authorities said there was no known motive for the violence and that Monday’s shooting appeared to be “an unprovoked attack”.

The Corona teens were found by theater workers cleaning up after the 9:35 p.m. showing of the violent horror film at The Crossings mall in Corona, southeast Los Angeles, the Department Corporal said. police Corona Tobias Kouroubacalis at CBS Los Angeles. At a press conference on Wednesday morning, Kouroubacalis said they were found near or in their seats.

“At one point the employee or employees walk into the theater to do their cleaning or walk through and that’s when the 911 call was made,” Kouroubacalis said. “[They said] that there was an unknown problem, that someone was bleeding, that there was not very specific information given. “

The suspect, Joseph Jimenez, 20, was arrested Tuesday evening on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and robbery. He is being held on $ 2 million bail and Kouroubacalis has said he will be brought to justice in the coming days.

A gun matching the caliber of the weapon used in the shooting was found at his home, police said, according to CBS LA. It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.

Kouroubacalis told reporters on Wednesday that witnesses provided information to the police which led them in the direction of the suspect. Investigators are convinced he acted alone, Kouroubacalis said.

“There is no information that the suspect and the victims had prior contact before these crimes took place,” he said.

Kouroubacalis said the suspect had a ticket to the film. He also said investigators had no information to suggest the suspect was inspired by the film.

“While filming, no one apparently heard the gunshot,” Kailyn Dillon, an employee who was not working at the time, told CBS LA on Tuesday. “I know we do bag security checks every day and unfortunately I don’t know if it was just missed or if it was in a holster on their belt.”

Authorities said the two victims attended the film together. However, it was not immediately clear who else was in the theater with them, although records show that a total of six tickets were purchased for this performance.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Goodrich’s family with funeral expenses.

“You don’t expect to enjoy coming home from work and then finding out that your cousin was shot in the head,” Goodrich’s cousin Ashley Cole told CBS LA. “When there are only six people in a movie theater, for me, that’s not what I imagine someone who has no intention of killing someone to do.”
