The producer of the current Broadway version of Kill a mocking bird offered a compromise to theater companies affected by a lawsuit over their productions from an earlier adaptation of Harper Lee's novel.

Fourteen productions of the Sergel version of the play are being produced or being staged, including in cities such as Buffalo, New York, Dayton, Ohio and Salt Lake City, Utah; this last production has recently been canceled. All of Sergel's productions were licensed by Dramatic Publishing, although Rudin and Lee Domain argued that they were not allowed to authorize the work.
