You never thought Tom Brady had a big personality during his days with the Patriots. However, it appears that his robotic character was just a facade erected during his time in New England.
Since arriving in Tampa Bay, Brady has given free rein to his wit and humor. He’s been active on social media, especially since joining Twitter ahead of the 2019 NFL season, and has appeared in numerous commercials during his time with the Buccaneers.
Of course, Brady was always a television staple during his time with the Patriots. He hasn’t appeared in as many commercials as he does now, but there are a few memorable ones left (although, to be fair, today’s ones are just a little better).
Here’s a look at 10 of the most memorable commercials Brady has featured in during his career.
10. “Deflate” – Foot Locker
Brady agreed to appear in this Foot Locker commercial as a result of Deflategate. It wasn’t really well received considering his status as a villain in the NFL.
“I don’t know exactly what was going through my mind when I made the decision,” Brady said of the ad, according to the Chronicle of San Francisco. “I had a lot of free time at the start of the year. So I had to find ways to fill it up.
Choosing to do this was probably not the better idea, but it was still pretty funny for Patriots fans. To other NFL fan bases, this might sound a bit whiny.
9. “Have an MVP Day” – Daily MVP
There is nothing great about it other than the fact that Brady is dressed as a jumpsuit of Dwight Schrute and Joe Exotic. Appreciate the outfit, but that’s the only special feature of this ad. Perhaps this is the reason why the company that made it has been closed for a long time.
8. “Tom Brady’s Morning Routine” – Intel 360 Replay
Yes, Intel 360 Replay can make Brady’s normal morning routine epic, no matter how mundane. It’s a bit similar to Brady’s style of play as a quarterback – he’s not the flashiest player; he just makes all the throws necessary to win – so maybe there’s some irony in that.
This ad is solid across the board, but it’s not as funny as some of the other comics that top this list.
7. “5 rings” – MRI shields
This has been shown locally in the New England area, but it’s one of the better thought-out commercials Brady has been in.
Originally shot when Brady had four rings, they shot an alternate ending with him putting five rings in the MRI facility’s locker. The original four-ring version was featured until the Patriots beat the Falcons in Super Bowl 51. After that, they had the five-ring version ready for immediate use. It’s excellent planning on the part of Shields and Brady.
6. “Retreat” – Hulu
This was released during Super Bowl 54. Brady was about to be a free agent for the first time, so he decided to play with Patriots fans.
Brady posted a still image in the week leading up to the Super Bowl. He sent New England into a frenzy.
Was Brady retiring? Did that mean he was coming out of a stadium and joining another team? Or had he walked into a stadium to return to the Patriots? Fans and media figures spent a lot of time breaking it down, but it turned out to be a shameless take for this Hulu ad, which jokingly hinted at retirement.
The commercial itself was classic, straightforward Hulu commercial, but Brady deserves a few props on how he handled the prep.
5. “Bready” – Metro
Listen, I get it. There are a lot of things in there that just don’t make sense. Brady doesn’t eat a lot of bread because of his restrictive TB12 diet, so why did Subway choose him to participate in this? Plus, why is Subway paying him to appear in an ad for a product he won’t eat? At this level, this advertising is absurd.
However, the idea that Brady would wear bread-smelling cologne because he can’t eat it is somewhat comical, as is the bogus advertisement for the cologne itself. And as Brady acknowledges, he still has to recognize greatness when he sees it.
It’s not as good as the other Subway commercials Brady is in, but it’s better than most think.
4. “Do Nothing” – Uggs
Brady has long been a spokesperson for Uggs, so natural that he played an important role in their advertising campaigns. This one stands out, as it features Julian Edelman and Jeff Bridges.
In this ad campaign, Brady is comfortable doing nothing while Edelman desperately wants him to do something because he’s bored. This causes Edelman to try various things to get Brady’s attention, including making a smoothie and popping bubble wrap.
Meanwhile, Jeff Bridges arrives and sings a classic American folk song – “Buffalo Gals” – while Brady sleeps on the couch. He sings softly before playing louder and causing Brady to panic.
Brady is doing well for being impassive in this series of commercials, which can’t be easy with Edelman. Of all Brady’s Uggs commercials, these unique short pieces were the best.
3. “Not enough time” – Metro
Brady is a central figure in this advertising campaign. It contains several commercials and it often comes across as Steph Curry’s rival. He steals lines from Curry in one while Curry complains that Brady doesn’t cut as often as he does.
Of course, Brady really does. A few times in the quick commercials, Brady tries to get a word out, is ignored and says, “But I’m Tom Brady!” when cut.
Brady’s chemistry with Curry and the length of the short commercials really does that job.

2. “I’m in” – FTX (Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen)
Who would have thought that a cryptocurrency ad would be so entertaining? FTX hit the nail on the head with this one. It starts with Bundchen convincing Brady to enter the cryptocurrency market, and Brady deciding to tell all his friends and acquaintances about it.
Of course, this was done recently, so most of Brady’s friends are described as New Englanders. He gets a variety of responses from them and is listed as “the worst person ever” on someone’s phone.
Brady’s friends in New England also try to insist that they won’t take him back, but they immediately admit that they are lying.
This commercial is basically hilarious and the reactions capture the emotions Patriots fans went through after Brady left. Add in some exaggerated Boston accents and a reference to Dogecoin, and this is one of the best of the bunch for Brady.
1. “Big Game Announcement” – T-Mobile (Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski)
This is hands down the best publicity Brady has ever done. This is probably one of the best recent commercials featuring an NFL player.
It was originally scheduled to air during the Super Bowl, but given the NFL’s exclusive rights deal with Verizon, T-Mobile released it online and on other networks. It was immediately a success.
The ad describes the alternate story of how Brady landed in Tampa Bay. He called Gronkowski, but Brady’s “irregular network” caused him to misunderstand Gronkowski’s advice. Gronk wanted Brady to retire and join him in Florida. Instead, Brady thinks Gronk wanted him to sign with the Buccaneers and recruit him to sign there as well.
Obviously that’s not actually what happened, but it’s fun to imagine that it did. And Gronkowski saying, “Am I retired?” and “Mom, where are my soccer pants?” to complete the one minute spot is just the icing on the cake. Well done, T-Mobile.
