(CNN) Paramount Pictures is delaying the release of three major films due to the ongoing pandemic.
“Top Gun: Maverick,” “Mission: Impossible 7” and “Jackass Forever” are pushed back to 2022, the studio said.
“Mission: Impossible 7” has been moved to September 30, 2022, “Top Gun: Maverick” will no longer be released over Thanksgiving weekend – moving to Memorial Day 2022 instead – and “Jackass Forever” will be pushed back from October 2 to February 4, 2022.
The sequel to “Top Gun” had already been delayed several times during the pandemic. In June, production of “Mission: Impossible 7” was halted for several days following a positive Covid case.
The rest of 2021 will have no version of Paramount. The studio will release the new “Scream” on January 14th.
The date changes are aimed at maximizing box office sales, possibly in order to recoup blockbuster production costs.
The Delta variant slowed down the box office rebound that many studios were hoping for in 2021.
Paramount had success with “A Quiet Place Part II,” which grossed nearly $ 300 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
In the meantime, for UK residents hoping to see Tom Cruise sooner, look for him landing his helicopter in a field near you.
