Toyota airbag recall: 191,000 cars replaced by Takata airbags recalled due to inflation problems today, including Corolla and Matrix

Detroit – Toyota recalls 191,000 cars in North America and Japan, because airbags may not inflate properly in the event of a collision. The recall concerns certain Corolla compact sedans from 2003 to 2008 and Matrix hatchbacks from 2005 to 2008.

Toyota said that front passenger airbags in cars had been installed during previous recalls to replace Dangerous Takata air bags.

However, at high temperatures, replacement bags may not unfold as expected, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a collision. Toyota would not say if someone was hurt because of the problem.

The company said the replacements were not made by Takata.

According to Toyota, dealers will replace air bag assemblies with upgrades at no cost to owners.

The company will inform the owners by letter starting in the month of October.
