Toyota chief hints at chances of NASCAR road course for Alonso

Alonso drove Jimmie Johnson's Hendrick Chevrolet on the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain last year as part of the winter driving exchange, and won the Le Mans with Toyota last year as part of his commitments as a FIA World Endurance Champion.

Prior to this Cup car test, Alonso said that he "considered NASCAR as a top motor sport in the United States and that means a lot."

Wilson, president and CEO of Toyota's US TRD division, met Alonso at the launch of the new Toyota Supra road vehicle in Detroit in January.

"He was there because of his association with our WEC team," said Wilson. "He was on stage at the launch of Supra with Akio [Toyoda, president of Toyota]who had a friendly shot at him "good luck in the Rolex 24 even if you're not with us" [Alonso won the race with Cadillac].

"We had dinner with him one night there. He looks across the horizon – I do not think anything is impossible for Fernando. Who knows?

"It would be fun to put him behind a road race in Sonoma or Watkins Glen. I do not know if that is possible, but he would be very interested – absolutely. It would be great for business.

"What he did [at the Rolex 24] was great. As a fan, I watched and I was forced.
