Diablo II is back with a fresh coat of paint in Diablo II Resurrected, the next remaster of Blizzard’s action-RPG game.
Vicarious Visions and Blizzard welcome players back to the action RPG game after 20 years. Long rumor, Diablo II: resurrected contains both new and old elements to usher in a new generation of players.
Diablo II remains an iconic game in the eyes of fans, and the remaster is poised to introduce a new generation to the classic series, just in time for Diablo IV.
The story
Following the events of the original Diablo, Risen Diablo II opens with the Dark Wanderer. This unique hero defeated Diablo, the Lord of Terror, containing the monster in a Soul Stone which he placed in his body. However, their evil could not be contained. The Dark Wanderer eventually lost control and through the Wanderer, Diablo began a new conquest, starting with freeing his brothers. It had been a long time since Diablo worked with his brothers, who were also sealed in Soulstones. Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal are the highest demons called Prime Evils. Together, they could easily destroy Sanctuary … and that’s just the start.

Until another hero rises to follow the Dark Wanderer and stops Diablo and his brothers, players take on the role of this new hero and begin a mission to save Sanctuary from the Prime Evils. Diablo II is told in four acts and features Diablo, Lord of Terror, and Mephisto, Lord of Hatred. After the fourth act, players take on Baal, Lord of Destruction, like the last Prime Evil. Players must battle hordes of evil minions to collect armor, weapons, and enchanted items in a definitive action RPG that will put players through hours of grinding and experimentation with the collected gear.

Diablo II: resurrected is a remaster of Diablo II and expansion Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. Blizzard sought help from one of the biggest remaster teams in the business, Vicarious Visions. After working on Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, the studio merged with Blizzard Entertainment. The two companies already shared their parent company, Activision.
Fans of the original game will be happy to hear that the remaster has the original game at its core. Blizzard and Vicarious Visions are based on Diablo II to make it look fresh while the game mechanics remain the same. Their main goal is to pull the nostalgic strings of gamers and implement a system they call the 70/30. Seventy percent of the look and feel of the game should stay the same and give the classic feel, while thirty percent add something fresh to enhance the experience. While the original Diablo II was in 2D, the remaster is in 3D, meaning players will be able to see a lot more detail in action and their surroundings than ever before. The game will also feature a Legacy Toggle which will allow players to switch between the classic look and the new look.
The cutscenes and audio have all been remastered to present a beautiful gameplay. Yet all of the changes were made using concept art and original renderings. The skills and appearance of the characters have all been meticulously crafted to ensure that their looks and sound follow the 70/30 idea.
Diablo II: resurrected will still work on 25 frames as far as the combat system is concerned. Like the original game, spells and skills worked in terms of life structures for players who like to calculate character DPS. Gamers should be happy to see that the game’s math will stay the same while the visuals run at current frame rates. New to the game will be controller support for the game, although they intend to keep the mouse and keyboard gameplay very similar.
Eight-player multiplayer, PVP, and trading will also make a comeback in the remaster. All characters will have a shared equipment pool, and there will be an option to play the game online or offline. When playing online, players will use global servers to play with anyone in the world.
Release date
During Blizzcon Online, Blizzard hosted a panel for the Diablo franchise. There in addition to news on Diablo IV and Immortal Diablo, they finally revealed the long rumor Diablo II: resurrected. The game’s trailer and the in-depth panel that follows give us a 2021 release window.
Players may be eager to play Diablo II: resurrected on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S and Nintendo Switch.
