The transport of large wind turbine blades across the central coast this week has been postponed until next week, although the exact dates and times have not been determined, a spokesperson for Caltrans District 5 said.
Oversized vehicles, escorted by units of the California Highway Patrol, were to carry wind turbine blades along various national highways through the counties of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara to the Strauss Wind Power Project in construction in the hills south of Lompoc.
The plan calls for transportation to leave the Port of Stockton via Interstate 5 and arrive in San Luis Obispo County via Route 46 East to Route 101, then south to Santa Barbara County.
Transportation would leave Highway 101 at Union Valley Parkway in Santa Maria and take it to Highway 135, where it would head south on Highway 1 to the project site overnight.
After transferring the blades to forklifts, the transport vehicles would collapse and return via the same routes to Stockton.
Travel is expected to take place intermittently over the next three months, the spokesperson said.
