HONOLULU (AP) – Authorities in Hawaii have arrested two people in California for submitting false COVID-19 test results to avoid a mandatory quarantine of travelers intended to curb the spread of the virus in the islands.
A 34-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman uploaded falsified negative test results to the Hawaii Safe Travels portal and arrived in Lihue on an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles earlier this week, police said. Kauai.
After their arrest, they were released pending investigation and flew to Los Angeles.
The woman declined to comment on Friday, but the man could not be reached immediately.
Travelers entering Hawaii must self-quarantine for 10 days unless they have been fully vaccinated in the United States or tested negative for COVID-19 before leaving for the islands.
Authorities in Hawaii have arrested people who break travel rules, including a woman from Illinois.
